About us
Diese Plattform ist eine vom HZDR betriebenen Infrastruktur und wird als solche als HIFIS Dienst in der Helmholtz Cloud angeboten, über die das Weiterbildungsangebot der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft und Partner bereitgestellt wird.
Sie bietet Helmholtz-weit eine zentrale Plattform für flexible Lernangebote und bündelt strukturierte Kurse, praxisnahe Inhalte und unterstützende Materialien, die in unterschiedlichen Formaten (etwa online, hybrid oder als E-Learning) genutzt werden können.
This platform is an infrastructure operated by the HZDR and is offered as a HIFIS service in the Helmholtz Cloud, through which the continuing-education offering of the Helmholtz Association and Partners is provided.
It provides a central platform across all of Helmholtz for flexible learning opportunities and bundles structured courses, practice-oriented content and supporting materials that can be used in various formats (e.g., online, hybrid or as e-learning).
1. Über HIFIS
HIFIS (Helmholtz Federated IT Services) ist eine zentrale IT-Plattform der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft, die eine leistungsfähige, vernetzte digitale Infrastruktur für Forschung und Zusammenarbeit bereitstellt.
Ziel von HIFIS ist es, Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler über alle Helmholtz-Zentren hinweg zu verbinden und ihnen Zugang zu modernen IT-Diensten zu ermöglichen. Dazu gehören unter anderem Cloud-Ressourcen, Kollaborationstools, Softwareentwicklungsplattformen sowie Beratungs- und Trainingsangebote.
Ein besonderer Fokus liegt auf der Förderung nachhaltiger Forschungssoftware, der Unterstützung kollaborativer Arbeitsweisen, der Bereitstellung einer sicheren und skalierbaren IT-Infrastruktur sowie auf Education- und Training-Angeboten für Forschende.
Damit bildet HIFIS die technologische Grundlage für datengetriebene Forschung und interdisziplinäre Zusammenarbeit innerhalb der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft und mit externen Partnern.
1. About HIFIS
HIFIS (Helmholtz Federated IT Services) is a central IT platform of the Helmholtz Association that provides a powerful and interconnected digital infrastructure for research and collaboration.
Its goal is to connect researchers across all Helmholtz centers and provide access to modern IT services. These include cloud resources, collaboration tools, software development platforms, as well as consulting and training services.
Key focus areas include the promotion of sustainable research software, support for collaborative workflows, provision of secure and scalable IT infrastructure, and education and training services for researchers.
HIFIS thus forms the technological foundation for data-driven research and interdisciplinary collaboration within the Helmholtz Association and with external partners.
2. Über Open edX
Open edX ist eine weltweit eingesetzte Open-Source-Lernplattform, die ursprünglich von führenden Universitäten entwickelt wurde und heute von zahlreichen Bildungseinrichtungen und Organisationen genutzt wird.
Die Plattform ermöglicht die Erstellung und Durchführung von Online-Kursen und bietet interaktive Lerninhalte wie Videos, Quizzes und Aufgaben, Funktionen zur Fortschrittsverfolgung und Lernanalyse sowie eine skalierbare Bereitstellung für große Nutzergruppen.
Durch ihre offene Architektur ist Open edX flexibel anpassbar und eignet sich sowohl für Selbstlernangebote als auch für betreute Kurse in modernen digitalen Lernumgebungen.
2. About Open edX
Open edX is a globally used open-source learning platform originally developed by leading universities and now widely adopted by educational institutions and organizations.
It enables the creation and delivery of online courses and provides interactive learning content such as videos, quizzes, and assignments, along with learner progress tracking, analytics, and scalable delivery for large audiences.
Thanks to its open architecture, Open edX is highly customizable and supports both self-paced and instructor-led learning in modern digital environments.
3. Open edX für HIFIS und Partner
Im Kontext von HIFIS wird Open edX als zentrale E-Learning-Plattform eingesetzt, um das Trainings- und Weiterbildungsangebot innerhalb der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft auszubauen.
Die Integration von Open edX in die HIFIS-Infrastruktur ermöglicht eine skalierbare Bereitstellung von Kursen für Forschende und Mitarbeitende sowie die Bündelung von Lernangeboten verschiedener Helmholtz-Initiativen wie HIDA, Helmholtz AI oder HMC.
Darüber hinaus fördert die Plattform die Vernetzung von Lerninhalten, Communities und Trainingsformaten und unterstützt eine verbesserte Nachverfolgung von Lernfortschritten und Qualifizierungsmaßnahmen.
Open edX trägt damit wesentlich zu den strategischen Zielen von HIFIS bei, insbesondere zur Förderung von Wissenstransfer, zur Weiterentwicklung digitaler Lernformate und zur Öffnung von Bildungsangeboten für externe Partner.
3. Open edX for HIFIS and Partners
Within HIFIS, Open edX serves as a central e-learning platform to expand and enhance training and education offerings across the Helmholtz community.
Its integration into the HIFIS ecosystem enables scalable course delivery for researchers and staff, as well as the consolidation of learning offerings from initiatives such as HIDA, Helmholtz AI, and HMC.
In addition, the platform strengthens the connection between learning content, communities, and training formats, while improving the tracking of learning progress and skill development.
Open edX therefore plays a key role in achieving HIFIS strategic goals, including fostering knowledge transfer, advancing digital learning formats, and opening educational opportunities to external partners.
